Hands down the best Airbnb stay we’ve ever had! Jo and Gareth were the perfect hosts, they couldn’t do enough for us. Jo’s breakfasts were amazing. Gareth gave us loads of helpful local knowledge. The tent itself was fab, even though we stayed at the end of October in not great weather we were plenty warm enough. The log fire was easy to use and highly effective. The faculties on site were amazing and really clean. We will 100% be returning and telling our friends about this place.

    Some reviews from previous guests....

Hands down the best Airbnb stay we’ve ever had! Jo and Gareth were the perfect hosts, they couldn’t do enough for us. Jo’s breakfasts were amazing. I really cannot recommend this place enough! My weekend at Gareth and Jo’s glampsite almost felt like a dream - it was near perfect...! The lotus tents are a true haven and a wonderful base that’s against a beautiful cliff backdrop. Gareth and Jo have literally thought of everything to make our stay so comfortable - log burner stove, usb battery packs, local guides, and all the small touches in the tents themselves to make it feel like home - a true glamp site. The beds were incredibly comfortable and we enjoyed a full night’s sleep during all 3 nights we were there. Although the nights were chilly, the log burner stove and 13.5 tog duvets kept us cosy and warm throughout the evening. The amenities - including showers and bathrooms - were spotlessly clean. I really really really enjoyed the hot showers after a long day’s hike! Eric Jone’s cafe provided the hearty breakfasts and snacks to really jump start our day. Jo’s welsh cakes are highly recommended - delicious! The glampsite is surrounded by so many wonderful towns and areas to explore. With a car, we were easily able to explore Porthmadog, Portmeirion, Beddgelert and of course Mount Snowdon. It was a perfect base and we explored/ate/slept extremely well. I really hope to be back and am already considering a return to the lotus tents in the spring time next year!

Absolutely amazing place! The location is perfect for exploring Snowdonia and other areas in North Wales, the views around the camp site were also beautiful. The bell tent was incredible - super cosy and loved that we had everything we needed to get the log burner going as soon as we arrived. Gareth and Jo were both amazing hosts. We arrived late on the Friday and Gareth was there to give us a tour around and explain how to order breakfast etc. Pie and mash after climbing Snowdon in the wind and rain was perfect! Breakfast was amazing also - the hash brown bap was a winner! Also it was the best shower ever!

A 2 night minimum stay is required and we'll let the pictures below say the rest!

    The Setting...

The Western Wagons sit around a 'scrape' that is a man made feature to help with the ebb and flow of the water within the estuary/area.

Sometimes it dries out and sometimes it fills when it rains but whatever the situation the wildlife thrives in this special area. From ducks to dragonflies and watervoles to herons, buzzards and osprays you will be immersed in nature and we have purposefully left the land to re-wild itself and is reminiscent of what the area would have looked like before the Cob was built and the land drained/reclaimed.

Please keep to the paths/designated at all times to avoid disturbing any wildlife

We are currently in the process of renovating the bunk barn to make it compliant with lastest H&S regulations

Best of all is that breakfast will be included in our 'Cowshed' or takeaway so no cooking or washing up and can get on with your adventuring be it climbing, biking, walking or on the water.

    History...

Mrs Williams the original owner of the 'barn' would charge 50p for climbers/travellers to sleep in the hay when it was a barn/part of the dairy. The old workings of the threshing machine can still be seen and the byre was where the showers are now situated.

    Eating Here

Our reception building, the 'Cow Shed' came about due to Covid and having to reconfigure the internals into 'stalls' to divide the room safely.

Bwlch Y Moch was originally a farm/dairy and you can see some of the original milk bottles, along with other paraphenalia, inside.

Freshly prepared packed lunches can be ordered the night before if required/collected at breakfast time.

To include a bap or wrap, snack and a drink - please see menu for details.

With the success of our range of pies last year that we provided as takeout via our drivethru or for guests to eat in our open barn we are planning on providing the same service but as as an eat-in' option for a limited number of guests and customers.

A range of pies are available including the Moo! along with Vegan and Vegetarian options too. Book online or let us know.

    About Here

    Rivers, Scrape, Ditches & Drainage
There is a river that passes through the site and forms part of the Glaslyn flood defence system. There are also numerous ditches on site and can be seen in neighbouring fields that also help channel water. We also created a 'scrape' to hold/allow water to naturally drain to assist in this process and as a benefit we have seen an abundance of wildlife utilise this area from ducks (2 sets of ducklings so far!!), frogs, water voles and literally thousands of every type of dragonfly imaginable whilst providing a perfect habitat for insects.

Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)
Approximately 3-400m to the West of the site on the cliffs is a SSSI for bats. You will from very early evening, once warm enough, see many different varieties of bat swooping through the site catching insects and again the scrape we excavated has been a success to assist by creating the perfect habitat for them.

    Accommodation and Paths
We have been allowed to place our Western style Wagons on site and to protect the ecology of this area where they are sited we have re-wilded the whole area. To protect the area we have put in a natural wood chip path that prevents trampling of grasses/habitat to access the accommodation and also provides a great resource for our feathered friends for bug hunting! Please keep to the path(s) and areas cut immediately outside of the Wagons to prevent disturbing/damaging this environment.

    Birds & Wildlife
There are numerous feathered visitors in and around the site and most days you will be lucky enough to see the Buzzards soaring around the cliffs of Bwlch Y Moch.
As well as the usual myriad of common hedgerow birds such as Robins, Jays, Sparrows, Finches and Blue/Great Tits we have recently, as a result of installing seage treatment plants, had a flock of yellow wagtails take up residence last year who are very particular about water quality/location.
We have also noted a regular heron who likes to wade the river, woodpeckers and a couple of sightings of a kingfisher.
Down the road at the Glaslyn via Prenteg (about a 30 min walk) is the Osprey centre and may be lucky enough to catch the otters playing under the bridge too!

    Dark Skies
On a clear/dark night the sky here is awash with stars and the contrast of the cliff vs the sky provides a stunning view of the night sky towards the dark skies of Snowdonia.

    Water Quality/Treatment
As the site is not on a main sewer, and working in consultation with NRW to calculate flow/loads and to reduce waste output, we installed two state of the art water treatment plants with the output now 99.999% pure treated water so you can be safe in the knowledge that your stay is not harming the environment :)

We would like to further reduce this amount if possible and have already fitted aerated outlets with timed release valves on the majority of sinks and on showers too and replaced old fashioned toilets for those with smaller cisterns/dual flush valves.

    Food Miles/Local Produce
We try to use local produce and ingredients where possible with local butchers, honey and other Welsh produce along with producing our own welsh-cakes, scones and jam.

    Eco Tourism
Unfortunatley the continued rise of self contained accommodation has seen a rise in the weekend 'bring supplies, stay and leave' regime that has had a marked effect on local restaurants and businesses alike
When we took over the site we were dismayed at the number of packets, tins, food waste and associated food miles for all this and working with other local businesses to offer discounts etc. encouraged guests to book/use local.
We hope to try and start local craft/workshops on site too so we can give back to the community and make it a better place for all.

    Energy/Fuel
Our glamping tents are off grid/solar powered and the log burners are in the top 5% for efficiency with only dry/local wood sourced.
The wagons have a 12v system fitted with a reduced amperage/draw for heating so that when we fit our site solar system it can produce enough power to service the wagons/be carbon neutral
We hope to install e-car charging points along with solar so that guests can charge their cars over night ready for the next day!

    Materials
On site we have tried to re-use/use natural materials where possible including railway sleepers, old milk churns, recycled plastic rope and tin roofing sheets, sheet metal, fabrics, furniture, wooden pallets, leftover wood/logs, local slate, stone (most walls were made with stone found on site during excavations) and even found a use for two small trees we had to cut to meet distancing regulations!

    Trees/Planting
In the past two seasons we have planted over 700 trees and 200 shrubs/plants around the site to try and give back something to nature
